Punjabi is Multicultural and Multifaceted language with Linguistic Inclusivity

The Post- graduate Department of Punjabi, Multani Mal Modi College today organised a special lecture to mark and celebrate the ‘International Mother Tongue Day’. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Satish Kumar Verma, (Ex) Head and Dean Languages, Punjabi University, Patiala. The lecture was organized to equip the students with the constructive and multi-dimensional potential of Punjabi language and to engage the students with the challenges and problems faced by Punjabi Script in this era of digital media technologies.
College principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal welcomed the chief guest and said that the originality of thoughts and the practice of dialogue are two important factors for development of any language. He said that the promotion and preservation of our regional languages is the core of development of our culture, literature and national character.
Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Head of Punjabi Department discussed the literary contribution of Dr. Satish Kumar Verma and said that language and literature are the main factors for development of society with humane and cultural values.
Dr. Satish Kumar Verma was formally introduced with the students by Dr.Veerpal Kaur, Assistant Professor, Punjabi Department.
In his lecture Dr. Satish Kumar Verma said that Sanskrit, Arabic and many other languages structured and shaped the nature and contour of Punjabi Language. Remembering the martyrdom of five students of Dhaka University and the other protesters fighting for official status of Bengali Language he said that it is important to understand the value of our mother tongue to understand the world. He also motivated the students to learn more than one language and to engage with the inter-contextual and Inter- linguistic exchange of ideas and expression. He said that language is the base of our literary traditions, cultural heritage, communication patterns, the historical struggles and socio- political existence.
After the lecture a live discussion was also held. The stage was conducted by Dr. Devinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Punjabi Department. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Deepak Dhalewa, Assistant Professor, Department of Punjabi. All students and staff members were present in this programme.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਪੋਸਟ-ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ‘ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮਾਂ-ਬੋਲੀ ਦਿਵਸ’ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁ-ਆਯਾਮੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨਾਲ ਲੈਸ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਡਿਜੀਟਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਯੁੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲਿਪੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਪੇਸ਼ ਚੁਣੌਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੂਬਰੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਡਾ. ਸ਼ਤੀਸ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਰਮਾ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਡੀਨ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਲਿਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਦੋ ਅਹਿਮ ਤੱਤ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਚਰਿੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦਾ ਧੁਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਡਾ. ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਰਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਕਦਰਾਂ-ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਰਕ ਹਨ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਡਾ.ਵੀਰਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਡਾ. ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਰਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਸਮੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਗਈ ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ, ਅਰਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਪ ਰੇਖਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।ਬੰਗਾਲੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਦਰਜਾ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਢਾਕਾ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਅਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ, ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਵਿਰਸੇ, ਸੰਚਾਰ ਪੈਟਰਨ, ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ-ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਹੋਂਦ ਦਾ ਆਧਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਵਟਾਂਦਰਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮੰਚ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ।ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ. ਦੀਪਕ ਧਲੇਵਾ, ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।
